DMV Sports Report

The Nationals are going to the playoffs. That has not really been in question for a long time. After this past week, we can start celebrating the NL East title as well. A sweep of the New York Mets (even with an R.A. Dickey start), along with the Braves’ struggles in Milwaukee, have essentially wrapped up the division. The Nationals have an 8.5 game lead over Atlanta, the largest lead at any point in the season for Washington. With 19 games left, it’s safe to start printing those NL East Champions T-shirts.

This weekend though does not lack significance. Barring another historic collapse, the Braves will make the playoffs as well. With Kris Medlen, they have a fantastic chance of winning the one-game wild card playoff. With the Nats holding the best record in baseball right now, that would match the Nats with the Braves in the Divisional Round.
