What a disappointing weekend in Atlanta. The Braves swept the Nationals, and Gio Gonzalez’s quest for 20 wins had to be delayed until his next start. The sweep is all the more stinging considering the Braves may very well be the Nationals’ NLDS opponent. With Atlanta holding a commanding lead on the first wild card spot and Washington still sporting the best record in all of baseball, a Braves’ win with Kris Medlen on the mound in the one-game playoff would set up a five-game series between the two clubs.

Even in the face of the sweep, the division lead is not really threatened. The only question for the Nationals is whether or not they will have the best record in the NL. Currently, the Nationals are 89-57 with the Reds at 89-59. A three-game set with the Dodgers gives the chance for the Nationals to bounce back at home…
